Dr. Dre vs THX
In this case, Dr Dre used the famous 'deep note' which THX uses in films that they do audio for, it is viewed at the beginning of the film, Dr Dre used this noise at the beginning of one of his songs in the album he released in 2001. According to records, Dr Dre has previously requested to use the sound, but was later denied by THX. How ever Dre still released the song, and is THX filed a law suit.
I disagree with THX filing a lawsuit.
I think that THX is over reacting, it is a very small sound, short in length, and takes up a maximum of 10 seconds of the song. Dr Dre is directly making money off of using that sound, he makes money from making the music he does, the song would be good with or without the noise. It's also not a very hard noise to make, just because you created this simple noise which everyone probably makes in their life time, does mean you should say who or who can't use it.
